Wild Coast Snorkeling Adventure
A fully guided small-group day on Nova Scotia’s Atlantic coast — two ocean snorkel sites, all gear included, and a shoreside picnic lunch. No previous experience required.
Most visitors see Nova Scotia’s coastline from a clifftop or a car window. This is the day you get in the water.
From late July to late September, when the Atlantic has warmed enough to make this genuinely enjoyable, your Great Earth Expeditions guide takes a small group — never more than seven guests — to two of the region’s best coastal snorkel sites near Halifax. The sites are chosen each morning based on ocean conditions, visibility, and shoreline access, so you’re always heading to the best available spot that day, not the most convenient one on a fixed schedule.
All gear is included. Your guide is with you throughout — in the briefing before you enter the water, in the water alongside you, and at the shoreside picnic between sessions. This is a fully hosted day, not a gear rental with directions to the beach.

On the Water
Nova Scotia’s Atlantic shoreline is cold, kelp-covered, and genuinely alive. Depending on the site and conditions, you might find yourself among sea urchins, rock crabs, sculpin, and the kind of dense, layered marine life that only exists where the ocean is this cold and this clean. Your guide will orient you to each site before you enter — what to look for, how to move through the water, and what makes this particular stretch of coast worth paying attention to.
No previous snorkeling experience is required. Guests should be comfortable in and around ocean water, wearing a mask and snorkel, and entering from a rocky shoreline. This is an active adventure — the coast is real, the conditions vary, and that’s precisely what makes it memorable.
Between Sites
The day includes a prepared shoreside picnic lunch, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks — served beside the coast, not at a picnic table in a parking lot. This is the pause in the middle of the day: a chance to eat well, dry off slightly, and let the morning’s water settle before the afternoon session.
The Season
This adventure runs from late July to late September, and that timing is deliberate. Nova Scotia’s coastal waters reach their warmest temperatures in this window, sea life activity is at its peak, and the shoreline environment is at its most accessible. Outside this season, we don’t run it — not because the ocean isn’t there, but because the conditions that make this a genuinely good day in the water aren’t.
A note on site selection
Snorkel sites are chosen each day based on ocean conditions, water visibility, shoreline access, and overall experience quality. Your guide makes the call the morning of departure. This means the itinerary adapts to what the ocean is doing — not the other way around.
