Frequently Asked Questions

If you are considering a journey with us, these are the questions we are asked most often.

The Experience

What makes your trips different from other tours?

We focus on how the experience comes together—not just where you go.

That means small groups, thoughtful pacing, strong local food, local judgment, and a level of planning that allows the trip to feel seamless from start to finish.

You are not just being shown the region. You are experiencing it in a way that is better paced, more complete, and far less fragmented than standard-format touring or trying to piece it together yourself.

Most days begin outdoors—on the coast, on the trail, or on the water—when conditions are at their best.

Midday usually allows time to reset, explore, or settle into a well-chosen meal. Evenings bring the pace down and give the day a proper finish through food, atmosphere, and a more relaxed rhythm.

The overall goal is that the day feels full and rewarding, without ever feeling rushed or overloaded.

Both.

The days are built around landscapes and activity, but the experience also includes the towns, history, food, and local character that define the region.

That balance is part of what makes the journeys work. You are not just outside all day, and you are not just moving from meal to meal. The two sides of the experience support each other.

Activity & Trip Fit

Our trips are active, but not extreme.

You can expect meaningful time outdoors, coastal hiking, time on the water, and full days. At the same time, we design the journeys to be manageable and enjoyable over multiple days.

No specialized experience is required for most of what we do.

You should be comfortable with moderate physical activity and enjoy being outdoors, but you do not need an advanced background in hiking, kayaking, or adventure travel.

If you have specific questions about activity level or fit, we are happy to help guide you toward the right journey.

We design our journeys and adventures for groups of only 6-14 guests.  That allows for better pacing, more flexibility, smoother transitions, and a more personal experience overall. It is a deliberate part of the way we travel, not an incidental detail.

Anyone is welcome to join one of our scheduled journeys as long as it is not yet fully booked.

What's Included

Our journeys are fully inclusive by design.

That means everything required to deliver the trip is handled for you:

accommodations
all transportation during the journey
guided support throughout
all activities and tours included in the itinerary
all meals

From the moment your journey begins, you do not need to coordinate logistics, make reservations, or think about what comes next. You can simply focus on the experience.

The only exceptions are alcoholic beverages and gratuities.

Yes.

Once your journey begins, transportation is handled throughout the trip. You do not need to worry about routing, navigation, driving, parking, or how one part of the day connects to the next.

The only items not included are alcoholic beverages and gratuities.  When we say fully inclusive we mean it!

Planning & Booking

Our operating season is generally late May to early October.

Each part of the season offers something different. Early season can bring a quieter feel, summer offers energy and longer days, and early fall often brings excellent conditions and a slightly more relaxed atmosphere.

If timing is flexible, we are happy to help you determine what season best suits the experience you want.

Earlier is always better, especially if you are travelling during peak season or looking for a Custom Journey with specific dates and regional preferences.

That said, it is always worth reaching out. Availability can vary, and sometimes strong options still exist closer to departure than you might expect.

Not at all.

A rough sense of timing, group size, and travel style is enough to begin. Many strong trips start with just a few basic ideas and become clearer as the planning conversation develops.

No.

The initial conversation is simply about fit, timing, and direction. It gives both sides a chance to determine whether the trip we design is the right match for what you are looking for.

Custom Journeys

We begin with a conversation about your timing, your group, and the kind of experience you are looking for.

From there, we shape the overall direction of the trip, refine the details that matter, and handle the planning and logistics required to deliver it properly.

Yes.

In many cases, combining regions can create a stronger overall journey by adding contrast, momentum, and a fuller sense of Atlantic Canada as a whole.

Yes.

That is one of the main reasons travellers choose a Custom Journey. The overall pace, activity level, food emphasis, and regional focus can all be shaped to better fit the group.

Choosing The Right Trip

If you are unsure, we are happy to help.

We can recommend the best fit based on your group, travel timing, activity preferences, and whether you are looking for a more structured or more tailored experience.

Our journeys generally start and end in Halifax, NS.  However, customized journeys can accommodate a variety of starting and ending points depending on the needs of your group.

Start with an inquiry.

Tell us a bit about your timing, group, and what kind of trip you are considering. From there, we will help you determine whether a Signature Journey or Custom Journey is the better fit and guide you through the next step.
